Guides, Brownies and Rainbows in Newent have put together a display for the town's library, to mark "World Thinking Day" tomorrow (Saturday).

The day also marks the birthday of Scout movement founder Lord Baden-Powell and is a second good reason for celebration.

Brownie leader Marg-aret Highton said: "Thinking Day is an occasion when we think about Guides, Brownies and Rainbows in other countries."

Central to the display will be Guiding badges and other materials from Finland, a country which Newent Guide leader Clare Morris and Brownie leader Dorothy Sealey paid a visit to in August.

The build up to Thin-king Day in Newent started last Saturday, when 60 girls gathered at Newent Community Centre for an activity day on a global theme.

Birds of the world were fashioned out of ribbons while tissue paper was used for underwater pictures, representing the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.

The youngsters also made special bookmarks bearing the word peace.

Afterwards, a special service took place in the Community Centre, at which Guides, Brownies and Rainbows in 140 foreign lands were remembered and prayed for.
