DOES your family history include a reference to the Saunders family in Garway?
Christine Johnson, nee Saunders, has traced her roots back to Peter Saunders (tailor of Garway) and his wife Eliza, nee Harper. They were Christine's great grandparents on her father's side and she would like to get in touch with anyone who has common history with her.
Peter, the son of farmer Samuel Saunders, was born around 1808 and married Eliza at the Doward Chapel, Whitchurch on February 18, 1853. Both were shown as living in Garway at the time.
The couple had 10 children, Ernest (Christine's grandfather), Agness, Charles, Samuel, George, Arthur, Angelina (Annie, Albert, Alfred Melbourne and Clara Rosa.
After Peter's death, Eliza became one of the first assistant teachers at Garway School and is mentioned in the school log book of the time.
If you can help Christine, or recognise in her a long-lost relative, call her on 029 20884052 after 7pm, email her at Chris@philly13.freeserve.co.uk or drop her a line at 18 St Donats Court, Caerphilly, South Wales, CF83 1DF.
