SEDGLEY WHITE LIONS 0, Ledbury TOWN 1

WITHOUT several first team players, a youthful Ledbury produced a spirited performance to claim their first win from the last six away starts in the West Midlands League Premier Division.

The visitors took a while to settle down and much of the early play was contested in midfield with both sides struggling to keep possession.

Sedgley created the better early chances but were kept out by Ledbury's promising young goalkeeper Adam Ding.

Debutante striker Jamie James was prominent for the visitors and he was unlucky not to give Ledbury the lead when he out jumped the home defence to direct a header goalwards, only to see the ball rebound from an upright.

The decisive goal came in the 32nd minute when Stuart Smith collected a loose ball in midfield and ran at the Sedgley defence. As they retreated he unleashed a stinging, low drive which the keeper appeared to have covered until it jumped up and flew over his head into the net.

Ledbury had far more of the play after the break and, with better finishing, should have put the result beyond doubt.

WESTFIELDS 1,

LEDBURY TOWN 0

LEDBURY Town made West Midlands League Premier Division champions elect Westfields fight all the way at Rotherwas on Tuesday night

The victory saw Westfields extend their lead to six points in this action packed local derby.

One star of the show was Ledbury's teenage goalkeeper Adam Ding, who produced a superb performance.

Westfields started well and Ding produced a flying save from Mark Hibbard. When the ball broke free to Wayne Hoskins he saw his shot cleared off the Ledbury goal line.

The home side eventually broke the deadlock in the 40th minute when Paul Burton was brought down in the penalty box and James Watkins gave Ding no chance from the spot to give Westfields a 1-0 interval lead.

After the break Ledbury came more into the game and Jon Pugh produced a fantastic save to claw a Stuart Hall shot out of the top corner of the goal.

Ledbury keeper Ding saved a good effort from Mark Hibbard and then cut out two awkward corners as Westfields pressed.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Ledbury Town are away at Lye Town (2.45).
