Ledbury Town travelled to high-flying Wolverhampton Casuals in the West Midlands Premier Division on Saturday after three successive league losses.

WOLVERHAMPTON CASUALS 3, LEDBURY TOWN 5

Ledbury needed to win and they were boosted by the mid-week signing of ex-Hereford, Gloucester, Newport and Evesham player local lad Phil Preedy, who last played for Ledbury when he was just 15.

Ledbury opened the scoring on ten minutes when Phil Preedy threaded his way past two defenders before finding Nicky Welch to slot home the opener.

Three minutes later Casuals equalised when Dennany rose unchallenged to head home from six yards. After 27 minutes Duncan Preedy's shot was turned round the post by Booth. With Phil Preedy starting to relish his free role, the inter play in midfield from Mark Brooks, Stu Smith and Stu Hall was producing Ledbury's best football of the season and giving strikers Rob Colwell and Duncan Preedy much more service than of late.

It came as no surprise when Ledbury scored twice more before the break. On 42 minutes Phil Preedy charged the ball down on the half way line and ran the length of the half before rounding the keeper to put Ledbury deservedly in front, then within two minutes it was 3-1. The goal of the game saw some beautiful interplay in midfield before Rob Colwell released Phil Preedy down the left, who left the defence behind before firing past the helpless Booth.

The second half started with a bang as Ledbury were caught napping and Williams went through unchallenged before shooting from 30 yards to leave Hollingshead clutching thin air.

Ledbury continued to dictate matters when Duncan Preedy headed home a delightful cross from Rob Colwell. Just as Ledbury must have thought they had done enough Casuals came back again when a mix up between Hollingshead and his defenders resulted in Evans driving home.

Ledbury once again took up the initiative with Powell and Welch driving forward down the flanks in support. Colwell blasted wide and a Stu Smith pile driver pole axed a Casuals defender before Ledbury made the game safe when a Stu Hall free kick saw Mark Brooks produce a diving header.

Manager Paul Wilband then sent on the subs, Clueit, Stewart and Rob Perrin, the latter, who is another recent signing, looks like another shrewd signing by the manager.

ON Tuesday evening Ledbury Town won 2-1 in a league game at Tividale.

Ledbury went a goal behind but Robbie Colwell equalised just before half time.

Recent signing Phil Preedy then grabbed the winner for Ledbury in the second half.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Ledbury travel to Leek in the FA Vase second round. If any supporter would like to travel there will be no charge as the home team have to pay the travel costs.
