Bromyard continued their good start to the new year with a well deserved victory against a physical Stourport side in this North Midlands One match.

STOURPORT 8pts, BROMYARD 22pts

Stourport decided to play with the gale force wind in the first half and in conditions not supporting good rugby pinned Bromyard in their own 22 for virtually all of the first half.

Stourport's try came after only five minutes in which they continually rolled mauls and Bromyard's slow start yet again caused them to concede the score.

From the kick off Stourport again kicked deep and offside by Bromyard's backs resulted in three points to leave them trailing 8-0 after only 10 minutes.

The next 20 minutes saw Bromyard resolute in defence with Jason Piggott, Lawrence Fenn, Malcolm Squire and Reg Dixon outstanding.

With 10 minutes of the half remaining Nick Frost made a 50 metre break through the centres but was tackled short, however Stourport went over the top and Piers Gaunt kicked the three points. Bromyard followed this up with a try from Richard Moger just before half time to leave it all square at the break.

Bromyard could not use the kicking tactic in the second half as the wind had dropped so had to use the experienced scrum half Simon Lloyd to make forrays into the opposition territory. However Stourport still broke out only to be faced with Broms no8 Scott Holloway, who stopped them in their tracks.

Stourport's fly half was sin binned after 15 minutes of the half for pulling down a ruck and Bromyard made the most of this with Lloyd and Holloway setting up Moger for a try under the posts, Gaunt converted to leave Bromyard 15-8 up with 12 minutes to go.

Constant infringements saw Stourport concede more penalties to keep Bromyard in control.

With seconds remaining man of the match Holloway made a midfield break and outpaced four defenders to score under the posts, Gaunt added the extras to leave Bromyard clear victors.
