Bromyard recovered from their previous week's trouncing at the hands of Solihull to book a place in the third round of the Powergen Junior Vase.

FIVEWAYS OE 5pts, BROMYARD 22pts

This was never an easy fixture for Bromyard as the Ways pack was double the size of their counterparts. In a dour first half in which Ways played nine-man rugby and kept the ball for long periods the only score was a Piers Gaunt penalty to leave Bromyard 3-0 up at half time.

Straight from the restart Fiveways scored a good try in the corner to provide Bromyard with a wake up call. The pattern of the first half was being repeated until Ways finally decided to use their backs but this was costly as Nick Frost intercepted a pass on halfway and raced away to touch down under the posts for Gaunt to add the extras.

As the Fiveways players tired more space appeared for fly half Gaunt and centre Bernie Davies, This resulted in Gaunt creating space for full back Rich Moger to score his sixth try of the season, again Gaunt converted.

Simon Lloyd was playing a fine game at scrum half behind a small pack and was voted man of the match.

Just before the final whistle quick ball from Lloyd and swift hands from the backs resulted in a score for winger Reg Dixon to leave Bromyard with a deserved victory.

All the club hope for now is a home tie in the next round.
