HOLDERS Hereford 2nd suffered a narrow 17-14 defeat against Newtown 2nd in a semi-final of the Radbourne Floodlit Cup at Mortimer Park.

Hereford paid the price for making a slow start and trailed 17-0 after only half an hour.

Hereford rallied after the break and an early try from Peter Clark was converted by Lyndon Day to put the Wyesiders back in contention.

The Wyesiders added a second try soon afterwards when Rob Brimfield scored a penalty try, which was converted, but the Welsh side held on for victory.

Newtown 2nd will meet Luctonians 2nd in the final of the competition next Thursday at Mortimer Park, kick-off 7.30pm. Luctonians 2nd easily overcame Clee Hill 46-10 in the other semi-final.

Meanwhile, a try from Andy Spratling and a penalty from Will Bolt could not stop an inexperienced Hereford 2nd crashing to a 44-8 away defeat against Newbold 2nd.

l There is still some room for teams to enter Luctonians' Easter Sevens competition which will be played this Saturday. Interested parties should contact Simon Green-Price on 01568 709080.
