HEREFORDSHIRE rider Louise Skelton landed the two-day novice Welsh Championship eventing title in wet conditions at Chepstow.
The 27-year-old from Eardisley mastered the difficult conditions to record her first significant win aboard Bit of a Barney, a slender victory that the duo achieved by just 0.2 points.
She said that the pair's performance in the dressage section was much improved, adding that they picked up only minor penalty points in the steeplechase and the cross-country.
Skelton helped to breed Bit of a Barney at the livery yard in Eardisley and she hopes to travel to Holland in July to compete in an advanced three-day event.
She also competed in the Cleobury Mortimer Horse Trials on Sunday and came fourth aboard Partly Pickled.
