NICOLA Lawrenson, who started her golf as a 12-year-old at Leominster, secured third place in the prestigious PGA Titleist Trainee of the Year awards ceremony after completing a rigorous three-year course at The DeVere Belfry.
Lawrenson, from Stretford-bury, near Leominster, was one of eight women professionals among over 200 trainees who went through the course designed to meet the needs of today's golf professionals.
Now teaching in Peter Cowan's Academy at The Emirates Golf Club in Dubai, 28-year-old Lawrenson flew home to collect her award and £1,500 prize at The Belfry where she spent four years as an assistant professional.
During a successful amateur career, she won both the Herefordshire and Worcester-shire Ladies' Championships and represented the twin counties in the Midland League and national LGU events.
In 1997 she decided to make a career in golf and took up a position as an assistant professional at Chirk Golf Club before moving on to The Belfry.
Nicola said: "It's great to have been back to my former training ground for such a special occasion. It's a great boost to my confidence and lady professionals in general."
