LUCTONIANS' Rugby and Cricket Club members - and supporters in general - will be saddened by the death of John Brown, a stalwart of the club for some 30 years.
In his long association with Luctonians, Brown, in his quiet and considerate manner, served the club as a cricketer, treasurer of the cricket section, and for many years as honorary groundsman.
Players, officials and spectators stood for a minute's silence before the start of play in Herefordshire's Minor Counties match at Mortimer Park on Sunday.
Cricket secretary and club colleague David Price introduced the mark of respect and paid tribute to the tremendous contribution John, who was 68, made to the club.
He said: "Without his outstanding devotion to the care and preparation of the wicket and ground at Mortimer Park we would not be hosting Minor Counties cricket.
"He will be sadly missed by a lot of friends in the village and by all members of the club."
The funeral will be held at St Michael and All Angels Church, Kingsland, today (June 5) at 12 noon, followed by cremation.
Friends are invited back to the Luctonians clubhouse after the service.
