HEAVY showers and a blustery wind did not deter an entry of 76 runners for the Dymock Half Mara-thon.

Conditions prevented a fast time but Chris Flavell, of Dudley Kingswinford, led all the way in his first half-marathon victory and clocked l hr 17 mins 38 secs.

Steve Hale, of Lydney, closed rapidly to finish a close second in 1-18.26 and Andrew Hawkins, of Gloucester, finished third in 1-19.12. First local man to finish was Dave Jefferies, of Ross-on-Wye, who was 15th in 1-35.22.

Sue Bruce (Tewkesbury) retained the ladies' title and improved her time by 5 mins with 1-27.09, followed by Sian Stroud (Monmouth) 1-45.02 and Sonia George (Leomin-ster) 1-45.36.
