BRIAN Huggett, the former Ryder Cup hero and multiple winner on the world golf scene, has resisted attempts to be coaxed out of retirement to make a farewell appearance when the Wales Seniors Open returns to Harlech this summer.
The 66-year-old Welshman, who lives near Ross-on-Wye, won on the seniors tour as recently as 2000.
But he has always made it clear that he would not play golf if he felt he could no longer compete. A proud supporter of all sporting activities in Wales, Huggett commented: "I made my farewell appearance on the regular tour with a tournament in Wales at St Pierre, Chepstow, and my last appearance on the seniors tour was also in my native country last year, at Harlech.
"I posted a very respectable total of 214 and that will be my last competitive appearance in professional golf."
