A MAN-of-the-match display from Pakistani Majid Majeed inspired Colwall to an exciting nine-run away win over Swindon in the Stroud & Swindon Building Society West of England Premier League Glos/Wilts Division 1.
The 21-year-old all-rounder scored a stylish 87, containing 11 boundaries, and shared an important 150-run opening stand with Colwall captain Tom Wolfendale in 29 overs.
Once Wolfendale was the first player dismissed for 60, Colwall's run-rate slowed drastically and, despite 46 from former Hereford player Pete Butler, the visitors closed on 249-6 from 50 overs.
Swindon's openers B Sydney-Smith (31) and P Baden (44) took 50 from the first 12 overs before swing bowler Majeed got down to work.
Majeed promptly removed both openers but Andrew Staff (52) and D Baesant (44) put Swindon back in contention.
Spinner Dave Sutton bagged 3-70 but Swindon continued to look menacing. In fact, the Wiltshire club needed just 10 runs for victory when Majeed snapped up the final two wickets to finish with 5-44 and earn third-placed Colwall their second league win of the campaign.
