THE travelling community considers Herefordshire Council a soft touch, Leominster MP Bill Wiggin has claimed after thousands of ravers wreaked havoc in his constituency.

He wants the council and Police authority to make sure scenes at Stretford Court, Monkton, which saw stones, human excrement and bottles hurled, never happens again.

"For a long time the travelling community has seen Herefordshire Council as a soft touch and I welcome the comments of the leader of the new Conservative/Independent council, Roger Phillips who said 'this must never be allowed to happen again'."

Mr Wiggin has also met with Hereford Police Station's Superintendent Guy Rutter.

"It is at times like this we realise how important our police service is. However, I feel it would have been helpful if due warning of this event had been detected at an earlier stage and I have invited the chief constable to meet with me to discuss steps that can be taken to prevent such an event ever happening again."

Mr Wiggin said the illegal music festival, attended by 3,000 revellers who had responded to an internet invitation, was 'clearly an organised and sinister event' and calls for those arrested to be prosecuted.
