TRIBUTES have been paid to a 16-year-old student of John Beddoes School in Presteigne who died in a car crash in mid-Wales.

Samuel Vaughan, known as Sam, was described by head teacher John Stocker as a 'fun loving person'. Mr Stocker said: "He enjoyed life, lived it to the full. He was the captain of the under-16 rugby team and very popular amongst his peers. His parents and family were always very supportive and he is greatly missed by everyone at the school.

"The look on the faces of staff and students when we found out about the death said it all."

Sam from Norton, whose funeral took place at Norton Church on Monday, died on May 22 when the Ford Fiesta he was travelling in was in collision with a lorry on the A483 Newtown to Dolfor Road.

Sam and the driver of the Fiesta were taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital where Sam later died.

Anyone saw the white Ford Fiesta or blue Foden HGV at around 1pm when the accident occurred are asked to call Newtown Police on 01686 625704.
