GENERATIONS of Police officers came together to remember the old Herefordshire Constabulary at the Holme Lacy House Hotel on Sunday, March 25.

In total, 180 people attended the first ever reunion of the former county police force, which after being formed in 1857 ended in 1967, when it amalgamated with other Midland branches to form the West Mercia Constabulary.

Those present included people who had joined the Constabulary as Police Officers, Cadets and Civilian Support staff through the group's distinguished history.

Talking point

One of the big talking points at the dinner was the book 'Herefordshire Constabulary 1857 - 1967'.

The book contains many stories and photographs of the force's 110-year-history and the author Vera Hadley attended the reunion. A great number of copies were sold and all proceeds went to St Michael's Hospice.

The event was organised by two rotary club members, Brian Humphreys and Chris Furber. The pair both joined the Hereford Constabulary in the 1960s before rising to the rank of Superintendent with the West Mercia force.

Former Whitecross schoolboy Brian Humphreys said: "The reunion was a tremendous success and the good weather permitted those attending to walk the grounds of the hotel and catch up on old times and faces."
