The adage, "never cast a clout 'til May is out", proved a true one this year, with the month failing to hit high temperatures until the end.
Albert Road weather watcher Norman Selkirk said: "May was not particularly warm and on the morning of the 15th a ground frost occurred. There was no really warm weather until the last three days, with a high of 28.4C on the 31st."
The month was showery, with rain on 21 days. The total rainfall was 53.4mm.
