THE last of a series of signs in Frith Wood, made by Ledbury pupils 40 years ago, has been granted an honourable retirement.
The Forestry Commission, which owns and manages the wood in partnership with Ledbury Naturalists' Club, is renewing the signs.
In 1963, pupils at Ledbury County Secondary School made eight wooden signs for the wood, but now only one remains and that is beyond repair. The children provided different names for the walks criss-crossing the wood, which were reflected in the signs.
Ledbury Naturalists' Club secretary Peter Garnett was the deputy head at the school involved in the original project and has provided the names and locations of sign boards.
