Colwall had the satisfaction of recording their highest score of the season so far in this league defeat of Swindon on Saturday.

SWINDON v COLWALL

Batting first, openers Majid and Tom Wolfendale gave the visitors the best possible start, with a first wicket partnership of 156.

Wolfendale returned to the form he showed last season, whilst Majid was in especially good form to the shorter ball outside the off stump. When Wolfendale departed for a season's best 64, Peter Butler was able to take over in swashbuckling style and his 48 took Colwall past 200. Well set fields and tighter lines bowled in the final few overs restricted the scoring rate in the final 10 overs when a score over 275 looked likely. On a good wicket and fast outfield it was a few less than the Colwall skipper had asked for as Colwall closed on 249-6.

Swindon's openers looked to be off to a flyer and at first maintained a rate of six an over. Majid picked up Peterson LBW, just as the score passed 50.

Swindon continued to score freely but in contrast to Colwall lost wickets regularly. A fifth wicket partnership took Swindon in sight of victory, before Majid swooped on a return hit to gain the run out that had looked likely. As things became desperate for Swindon wickets tumbled.

Jordan Kontarines held a good catch at long on from the bowling of David Sutton and when Stinchcombe's stumps were toppled by man of the match Majid, the game was finally settled in Colwall's favour. Swindon 240 all out.
