WITH the inaugural end-of-season Nationwide Conference play-offs keeping thousands of football fans perched on the edge of their seats, IAN MORGAN spoke to five Hereford United supporters at Scarborough on Saturday to find out which clubs they thought would make the grade.

Luke Powell, 17, who works part-time in the Hereford United club office, said: "I am fully behind the team and I am confident that we are going to make the play-offs."

Denise Powell, an office worker with Berring-tons and who also helps out in the Hereford United club shop at home matches, said: "It's promising to go down to the last couple of matches, and I think Doncaster, Hereford, Dagenham and Morecambe will qualify for the four places. It's noticeable that the introduction of the play-offs has certainly created a lot of interest and it's very nice to see more people coming to Edgar Street as a result."

Nick Butler, 38, a salesman now based in Scarborough, said: "Owing to our well documented financial restrictions, I think the squad is a little bit too small to make it. We have had a treme-ndous season, which has exc-eeded all exp-ectations, but I feel that we are just going to be edged out by clubs with bigger squads and more money. We now need to look ahead to next season and try to keep the top quality players, like Paul Parry, at the club."

Kirsty Morris, 23, who works at the Crown Inn at Woolhope said: "With Hereford, Morecambe, Chester, Dagenham and Doncaster all in contention, there should be an exciting finish to the season. I am keeping my fingers crossed that Hereford will get there, but it looks like going down to the last few matches.

Scott Mann, 15, a pupil at Aylestone School, said: "It's going to be a very close thing but I think Hereford might just pip Chester for the final spot, which would be a great achievement. But if we don't make it, then it's not going to be the end of the world. Yeovil are certain to win the league, while I am sure that Dagenham and Doncaster will make the play-offs."
