Hereford United bowed out of the FA Youth Cup at the first hurdle after crashing to a 6-2 defeat at Gloucester City.

A three-goal burst in the closing minutes of the first half rocked United who had held their own for the opening 35 minutes.

Although Chris Mortlock bagged a second-half brace, following good work by James Wood and then Simon Gwilliam, the home side comfortably booked their place in the second round of the competition.

Hereford maintained their promising start to their Midland Floodlit Youth Under-18 Southern Division campaign with a 4-0 win at Bromyard Town.

The Bulls opened their account on 15 minutes when Paul Collins headed home Adam Kite's cross and then Kite added the second on the stroke of half-time following a quick break by Ollie Cooke.

Cooke raced on to a ball from Simon Gwilliam to notch the visitors' third midway through the second half and then Lewis Jones completed the scoring following a fine pass by Dean Jordan.
