A TEAM OF Tesco workers were quite literally 'in the pink' during the official launch of Race for Life at the Bewell Street store yesterday.

Hereford Racecourse will play host to the women-only Race for Life set to take place in the city for the first time on July 20.

Quickly gaining momentum, Race for Life has already attracted over 600 applicants and organisers at Cancer Research UK hope over 2,000 women will eventually take part on the day.

The unique event will form part of a chain of races throughout the country in which women walk or run 5km together to help cure cancer faster by raising funds for Cancer Research UK.

During the next few months more than 130 events will take place involving 130,000 women of all ages and fitness abilities.

Some will participate in memory of lost loved ones, while others simply consider cancer research to be a worthy cause.

All are united because the deadly disease touches the lives of every individual in some way.

National events organiser, Nick Wright said: "It is the first year that we have come to Hereford it is a nationally successful event and it's Hereford's chance to take part and do their bit."

Humble beginnings in 1994 at just one venue and 680 entrants grew and grew until last year more than 250,000 women took part nationally.

After a decade of Race for Life, organisers want to make sure their 10th anniversary is the best ever and together with official sponsors, Tesco, they hope to raise £17.5 million.

Entry forms are available from Cancer Research UK shops, Tesco stores, leisure centres and GP surgeries.
