MONEY will be growing on trees at a city office next month.

Instead of sending cards to colleagues this Christmas staff at Hereford's Inland Revenue will write their names on a fir tree and make a donation to the Acorns Three Counties Appeal.

The money spinning idea is in aid of a new hospice for life-limited children in the three counties. The Inland Revenue's 400 employees in Hereford and Worcester will take part.

"We thought that if we pooled our efforts we could make a real impact for a local good cause," said 'cash not cards' organiser Martin Smith. Acorns' community fundraising co-ordinator, Fran Winterbourn, would like others to follow the example.

"This is such a simple idea. I would love to hear from any local businesses that would be interested in setting up a collection for us in their work place," she said.
