THE newly formed Herefordshire County Cricket Clubs XI will be hoping to chalk up their maiden victory this Sunday against Gloucestershire CCC 2nd in a 50-overs-a-side friendly at Brockhampton.

The Herefordshire side suffered an eight-run defeat last month against Worcestershire CCC 2nd in their inaugural match - and they will be aiming to give another impressive display.

The Herefordshire team will be led by Nick Denny, who strongly believes that there has been the lack of opportunity for a Herefordshire team to play together above the under-21 level since the demise of the Herefordshire CA XI.

Denny said: "There has been a very positive response from players towards the new team and the feedback from the county's clubs has also been very strong. People seem to be very pleased that players from Herefordshire clubs are being given a chance to play at a higher level."

The new Herefordshire team has also proved a success commercially, attracting £2,500 in sponsorship to help towards the cost of providing official shirts and caps.

Selection is restricted to players who are Hereford-shire born or represent a club within the county.

Denny added that the Herefordshire team hoped to arrange a third home friendly against Glamorgan CCC 2nd in August.

Squad: Nick Denny, Ed Symonds, Faisal, Adam Herbert, Nick Hitchings, Leroy James, Henry Langford, Ben Mason, Ed Oliver, Chris Powell, David Price, Nick Price, Owen Price, Shahid, Robbie Symonds, Johnny Walker, Steve Williams.

l HEREFORD'S Royal National College for the Blind cricket team won their way through to the semi-finals of the British Blind Sports Primary Club National Cricket Knockout Cup with a 306-run win over Sussex Sharks.

Adam Ringland scored 210 not out in Hereford's 392-2 and then took four wickets as Sussex were bowled out for 86.
