REPAIRS to the roof of the Market House in Ledbury could cost £30,000.
This came to light during a routine architectural study of the Grade I listed building.
The town council has limited discussion of the issue until now because of the ongoing debate over the building's future and the incoming disability access laws.
Town councillor Clive Jupp said: "This matter is separate from anything to do with disability access. Some major work is needed on the roof of our building, and we're talking about serious amounts of money."
The roof is not leaking at present but there has been some minor falls of plaster and work will need to be carried out within two to three years.
The long-term solution could be retiling, an operation that could cost as much as £30,000.
