A Colwall woman celebrated her 106 birthday on Monday.

Amy Haddon ordered the roses, strawberries and champagne to mark the occasion with family and friends at Evendine Residential Home, in Evendine Lane.

The former Admiralty clerical worker has enjoyed a piece of chocolate every day for the past 40 years.

"I don't mind eating the chocolate, it keeps me going," said Mrs Haddon.

"I can't remember my best memory from over the years, I can't go back all that time. I'm going forward now."

Sat in a comfortable chair, Mrs Haddon said: "I've spent my life being happy but I'd rather be skipping on my two feet than sitting down."

Mrs Haddon grew up in Newcastle-upon-Tyne but moved to Colwall to live with one of her daughters, Vallery Gillmore. She spent time in the village and with her other daughter, Marjary, in Hertfordshire, before moving to the home last September.

Owner Steve Bate said: "Mrs Haddon's always cracking jokes. She's got an energy about her, she's really on the ball."
