WHILE most players are relishing a summer break Hereford United's Paul Parry can't wait for the new season to begin.

The Welsh semi-professional capped a successful season by winning the Ray Mercer Trophy but is already champing at the bit to return to action.

Parry notched up 12 goals, his best-ever haul for the Bulls, and will take that form into the forthcoming Four Nations Tournament in South Wales where he will once again represent Wales, who won the same tournament last year.

Aside from his own form Parry was pleased with the overall improvement in the Bulls' squad which saw the Edgar Street club transformed from relegation battlers to genuine promotion play-off challengers.

"The main thing is that I wanted to do better than last year when we were fighting relegation," said Parry.

"The whole season was a highlight really because we did a lot better than people expected although it was a little disappointing at the end. I thought we were unlucky against Wigan in the FA Cup and it was amazing to think that we were just denied in the final minute against the Division Two leaders.

"From a personal point of view I was pleased with my goals haul of 12 because my previous best was six though I was playing up front a fair bit."

With Parry due to become a father in five weeks he faces a hectic summer but the prospect of the new season is not far away from his thoughts.

"I would rather the summer break was shorter to be honest because it gets a bit boring after a few weeks and I can't wait to get going again," he added.

During the Four Nations tournament Parry and team-mate Tony James will come face to face with team-mates Matt Baker and Michael Rose who are in the England squad.

"I'd love to win the Four Nations again but I'm sure there will be a fair bit of competition between the Hereford lads," said Parry.
