GRAHAM Turner has taken the tough decision to release Hereford United captain Ian Wright but offered new contracts to six other players.

Defender Wright, reserve team goalkeeper Ken Griffiths and striker John Grant have all left the club but Steve Guinan, Jamie Pitman, Matt Clarke and Ben Smith are expected to sign new deals tomorrow.

"Ian Wright has given five years good service and has been a fine captain but things move on," said United manager Turner.

"Sometimes ruthless decisions have to be made and I felt it was appropriate for Ian to go but I'm sure he will find a good club."

Midfielder Rob Purdie is also close to re-signing, but Turner has yet to hear from defender Richard Teesdale who received a written offer last week or Danny Williams who has yet to see the Hereford manager.

Turner will speak to Albano Correia when his agent returns from Portugal but retains an open mind about the striker who arrived on loan from Bristol City.
