Hereford United have snapped up a promising teenage goalkeeper from Third Division Torquay United.

Kenneth Griffiths, who was a trainee at the Devon club, had been on trial at Leicester City over the summer.

The youngster could feature in tonight's Edgar Street friendly against Second Division side Swindon Town (7.45) but Matt Baker is set to remain as number one despite recent trials at Leyton Orient.

Bulls boss Graham Turner was delighted with the capture of 19-year-old Griffiths, who arrived with glowing references from The Foxes.

"He's got the right physique for a keeper and has got bags of potential," said Turner.

"Leicester were very complimentary about him and I expect him to challenge for a place."

However Turner has suffered a blow with the loss of Ipswich Town youngster Ashley Nicholls who has snubbed a move to Hereford and plumped for a move to Third Division Darlington in the North East.

The Hereford boss will feature a number of trialists in tonight's clash with Swindon including some new faces in addition to the several that played in the 2-0 defeat to Tranmere Rovers.

Rod Giggs, West Brom reserve Josh Perry, Richard Teesdale from Walsall and David McNivan could all feature again.

Turner was buoyed by his side's display against Tranmere but is still demanding more from his players for the visit of Swindon.

United's latest pre-season friendly offers them the chance for revenge over the Robins who ended the Bulls' FA Cup hopes last season with a thrilling 3-2 second round victory at the County Ground.

"They will be a fair test, as Tranmere were, and I'll be looking for improvements fitness wise," said Turner.

"I thought for the first half-an-hour against Tranmere the passing and movement was good, as indeed was the defending and they didn't have a chance until they scored."

Meanwhile, striker Scott Voice saw a specialist at Oswestry yesterday in a bid to solve a groin problem that has dogged him since he arrived as a full-time professional from Bilston Town.

Voice managed only 13 appearances last season.
