Newent Community School is planning to send a group of six students on an exchange visit to the twin school of St George's in Kenya next year.
Funds will also have to be found to bring a party of Kenyan students to Newent in March.
Details are still being finalised, but the first fundraising event will be a Battle of the Bands event on Thursday, from 7.30pm to 11pm, at the school. It will feature eight local bands.
The two visits are being arranged as part of an educational project to make pupils aware of global issues.
