WITH 'rags' worth riches the auctioneers of Brightwells, Leominster, have a point to make about valuable needlework.

The saleroom is incorporating textiles into its auctions from December, with the team weaving a new expert into its blend of experience.

Constance King, in demand on the antiques circuit as an author, journalist and broadcaster, is the textiles specialist casting an adroit eye over Valuation Day next Tuesday.

"We are looking for all kinds of things relating to needlework and textiles," she says.

"From good early needle cases or pincushions to Victorian curtains made of interesting fabrics."

Antique costume also sells well, says Constance. Needlework tools prove popular too, while the market for samplers is particularly buoyant - one 19th century example recently fetched a record £10,000.

l Expert opinion on ceramics, toys, dolls and militaria is also on hand during valuation day at the Brightwells Leominster saleroom.
