WOULD-BE 'diggers' are being urged to band together to campaign for allotments in Leominster.

Peter Reece, 52, who lives above a shoe shop in the town centre and doesn't have a garden, is gathering names to form an allotment society.

His aim is to put pressure on the town and county councils to provide a site - Leominster had allotments in the past but they were all built on.

Peter is urging would-be cultivators to contact him. "The more people we have the greater pressure we can exert," he said.

"For people like me who live in the middle of town with little or no garden this is the only way to have a little plot of land to grow your own vegetables."

He has been encouraged by people making contact with him.

"One man, a former Leominster resident now living in Hereford, said he would move back if Leominster had allotments!" said Peter.

Peter Reece can be contacted at Cordwainers Lane, Leominster, telephone 07817 727490.
