Leominster Town 1 Tenbury United 0

LEOMINSTER grabbed their second West Midlands League Division 1 South success when a battling performance and a late goal saw them get the better of local rivals and league newcomers Tenbury.

Former Town player Ashley Botwood almost made Leominster pay as they backed off and gave him a shooting chance from the edge of the box, his fine drive flying just wide of the upright.

Leominster responded with a swift thrust down the left and Neil Bennett took a slick-back heel from Mark Ruslin to fire over the bar.

The best chance of the half fell to Tenbury when Ryan Morris rounded goalkeeper Kevin McCall, only to see his shot cleared off the line by Matt Williams.

Town's defensive trio of Matt Williams, Robbie Aldrich and Nick Barnett mastered the Tenbury attack after the interval and their midfield prompted an increasing number of offensives.

Ben Price should have given Leominster the lead but he somehow managed to lift a cross from Adam Peters over the bar from close range.

But, within a minute, Tenbury failed to clear a corner and Bennett dummied a defender before slotting the winning goal past Byron Davies.
