Hereford crashed to a heavy 5-2 defeat in a bad-tempered clash at North Bristol in Gerrard West of England and South Wales League North Division 1.

The city side fell behind after 20 minutes and defensive indiscipline then saw a short corner conceded from which the home side scored again.

Hereford needed a bright start to the second half if they were to make a recovery but instead conceded a third within a minute of the re-start.

Then, after Mike Downey had been sin-binned, the over-run Hereford defence conceded a fourth.

With tempers fraying, Andy Rogers and two North Bristol players were sin-binned leaving the game at nine-a-side and although skipper Colin Amos found the net twice, the home side scored a fifth to register a convincing win.

Missed chances cost Leominster dear as they went down to a 4-2 defeat at Cwmbran in North Division 2.

Leominster missed three great opportunities to open their account in the first 10 minutes but instead fell behind against the run of play to a well-taken goal.

Some poor defending then allowed the home side to extend their lead before the break and Cwmbran extended their lead from a short corner five minutes into the second period.

Josh Watkins pulled a goal back with a tap-in at the far post but Cwmbran netted their fourth before Watkins scored his second with 10 minutes to go.

Even then, Leominster had further good chances to narrow the deficit only for their finishing to let them down again.

In contrast, Hereford 2nd took most of the chances they created to cruise to a 5-2 victory against Lansdown 3rd in North-East West District 1.

Peter Duggan's run into the area set up Tim Miller for the first but a good spell of pressure saw Lansdown level before Richard Jones scored from a penalty corner strike just before the interval.

In the second half, Steve Alderton squared for Miller to extend the lead and Alistair Owen deflected a Jones strike into the net before Lansdown broke away to claim their second.

In the closing stages, Jones powered into the area and set up Miller for his hat-trick.

Leominster 2nd also found goals easy to come by in the same division, trouncing Gloucester City 4th 7-3.

Goals from Adie Preece, man-of-the-match Ian Johnson (2) and Duncan Trumper put Leominster firmly in control at the interval and the domination continued after the turnaround.

Mark Thorn and Preece extended the advantage, setting the scene for Justin Turvey to score his first goal in 17 years of league hockey before Leominster relaxed to allow Gloucester to score three late goals.

Hereford 3rd slumped to their fifth successive defeat, a 5-1 defeat at Bristol University 4th in North-East West District 2 and there was disappointment for Ross-on-Wye, too, as they went down to a 3-1 defeat at home to West Glos 4th in North-East West District 3.

Hereford 4th were made to pay for a host of missed chances in North-East West District 4 when West Glos 5th snatched a late goal to level at 1-1.

Chris Moody scored for Hereford early in the first half when he hit home a rebound from the goalkeeper's pads.
