EXCELLENT displays by Scott Peglar and Nick Panniers at the heart of the Herefordshire defence ultimately counted for nothing as two late goals confirmed a win for the home side in an English Schools FA Under-16 Cup group match at Ludlow.
Shropshire had two great opportunities to open the scoring in the first period, one of which came back off the Herefordshire crossbar, but the visitors also had their chances and Dean Barrell might have opened their account when he directed a header from close range straight at the Shropshire goalkeeper.
The home side, however, took the lead five minutes into the second period and went on to cement their victory with two late goals, one from a harshly-awarded penalty.
