WITH Ewyas Harold on county cup duty, Wellington took the chance to move back to the top of the Hereford Times Herefordshire League Premier Division with a narrow 1-0 win over Ross United Services.

In a tight first half, chances were few and far between but Eddie Wells went close with a header for Wellington whose goalkeeper Bryn Watkins was forced into a couple of fine saves by Services' Steve Gane.

Wellington began to create more in the second half and Mikey Craig might have opened the scoring before the home side finally broke the deadlock with 10 minutes to play.

Darren Preece, playing his first game of the season, showed some good skill to cut the ball back to Tom Herbert who fired the ball into the back of the net from 20 yards.

Sutton are now back in second place after showing their best form for some time in a convincing 4-1 win over visiting Hinton.

Inspired by the returning Anthony McQuade, playing his first game of the season after injury, Sutton raced into a two-goal lead in the first 15 minutes and never looked back after scoring twice more before the break.

A fine five-man move gave Duane Anning the chance to open the scoring after five minutes and Steve Wilkinson's 20-yarder flashed past Hinton goalkeeper Keegan Vallely to double the advantage shortly afterwards.

Anning then ran through to net his second and, with Sutton well on top, McQuade skated through a number of tackles to open his season's account as half-time approached.

A goalkeeping error allowed Ben Porter to grab a consolation goal for Hinton in the second half but the villagers ended convincing winners.

An injury to Luke Jones led to Leominster's game with Pegasus being abandoned after 76 minutes with the scores deadlocked at 1-1.

Jones' injury was sufficiently serious for him to be taken to hospital and in the delay the light faded to the extent that the game could not be continued.

Jones had earlier put Leominster into the lead, controlling the ball well and turning on the edge of the six-yard box to volley into the roof of the net.

Pegasus had fought back to level terms early in the second period from the penalty spot after a foul by Steve Strangwood.

Westfields, who had won 3-2 earlier in the season at Woofferton, found the villagers keen to take revenge, which they did with a 4-1 success at Moor House.

Lads Club continued to move up the table after a 1-0 success over Weston at Widemarsh Common.

Lads Club, with skipper Jason Fry pulling the strings in midfield, had the better of the first-half action but were only able to score once, when Sean Woods arrived at the near post to head in a free-kick.

Weston's Adrian Wigmore did his best to inspire his team to greater things after the interval but in spite of a good deal of pressure, with Darren Ball in good form in the Lads Club goal, there was no way through.
