THE Cantilupe Lodge of Herefordshire Freemasons' Ladies evening was hosted by Brenda and David Jones attracted 121 guests. The lodge is named after Hereford's only Saint, Thomas Cantilupe, Bishop of Hereford who was Canonised by the Pope. Some days later, David signed off as Master for the second time when, in his inimitable style he installed John Norris as his successor. Mary and Frank Whittingham held a dinner at St Peter's Lodge, Bromyard, in aid of the Third World Charity Send a Cow, which was successful in raising £300. Also in Bromyard, Peter Arrowsmith presented £350 from the lodge to Jonathan Lester, chairman of the Chamber of Trade, towards the cost of the Christmas lights. For the first time the Square and Compasses emblem was part of the display. Numbers were down at the Ladies Luncheon Club but the 81 who came were well entertained by Beryl Maile, a talented watercolour artist and raconteur. At Coningsby Lodge, Graham Banks completed his successful year by installing Christopher George, another of the brethren who hails from the north east, as Master from the ensuing year. Following the sponsorship by our 14 lodges, for the fifth year, of the gelding Jaro at the Riding for the Disabled stables at Holme Lacy, a party of members and their wives were invited to see Jaro and two other horses give a fine exhibition of riding by disabled riders. Loyal Hay Lodge, renowned for its dramatic interpretation of the three degree ceremony attracted 71 members and visitors, several of whom had travelled many miles to witness the occasion. As is usual at this time of year, all the lodges held socials or Christmas parties, which found time during the festivities to raise funds for various charities.
