DEFRA'S Rural Development Service hosted a regional food day at its Worcester headquarters.
A mini farmers' market was set up with eight local stallholders from farms that have received grants in the last three years and they in Neal's Yard cheeses and Tyrrell's crisps, both from Herefordshire.
The day, being held during British Food Fortnight, coincided with a major Government review of the way public authorities buy their food.
The aim of the review is to look at issues such as the environmental impact of production and distribution, energy use and nutrition and whether local supplies are being given a fair opportunity to meet local needs.
The staff canteen sourced all the day's food from local producers, with help and advice from Heart of England Fine Foods .
