A WALK past one of the Seven Wonders of the World is one of three mighty challenges planned to raise funds for terminally ill county children.

Acorns is appealing for fundraisers to sign up for two walks, including one through Herefordshire and a cycle ride through three countries to raise money for a new children's hospice.

The challenges are all next year and begin in July with the Three Counties Walk, a trek of 10km through one county or 30km through all three, beginning and ending at Eastnor Castle near Ledbury.

A cycle ride around Lake Constance, one of the most beautiful lakes in Europe, flanked by Austria, Switzerland and Germany, will take place between September 20 and 25.

The last challenge is past one of the Seven Wonders of the World and is the Three Gorges Trek along one of the world's longest rivers, the Yangtze in China.

The walk will take place in October and will be the last along the Three Gorges before a huge dam building project submerges it to create the world's largest man-made lake.

Emily Henton, challenge events co-ordinator, said: "The Three Counties Challenges provide an opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to help Acorns help children who won't see adulthood get the most out of their lives."

All money will go towards the new hospice, planned for Worcester, to provide respite care for children in Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire.

Fundraisers will be asked to pay a deposit to reserve a place on the challenges and raise a minimum amount of sponsorship.
