MICHAEL Rose is hoping to boost his goals tally in Hereford United's forthcoming campaign.

The free-kick specialist managed four last season, three from dead ball duties which he shares with midfielder Danny Williams, but has set his sights for a higher return.

"I would like to score more but obviously playing at left back I don't have as many opportunities as I would like," said Rose.

After seeing Hereford miss out on the play-off places, Rose is desperate to take that extra step this time round but knows they will face some stiff competition.

"Hopefully we will be looking for promotion because we've looked a strong side in pre-season and the gaffer is happy with the way things are going," he added.

"Our strengths are that we play football and work hard as a team."

Rose has identified Morecambe, 6-1 victors over Wolves, Dagenham & Redbridge and Chester among the main challengers to win the Conference championship.

On a personal level Rose still harbours hopes of a Football League career and would love nothing more than to achieve it with Hereford.

"It would be great to win the league with Hereford and make the step up that way but from my point of view I want to carry on playing the way I have been and I'm happy to stay here," he added.

Meanwhile, Jordan King is relishing the chance to establish himself at Edgar Street following his move from Telford United.

The 21-year-old is used to having to prove himself after playing under father, Jake, who was the manager at the New Bucks Head.

"It's a hard one because a lot of people said I was only there because of my dad so you have to prove yourself and it's twice as tough," said King.
