CALLS for traffic-calming measures on the outskirts of Ross-on-Wye are likely to be met before the end of this year.
Herefordshire Council's head of engineering and transportation Stephen Oates confirmed a traffic-calming scheme would be introduced along Walford Road by the end of 2004.
Mr Oates set out the council's intentions in a report into an application to build 66 houses near to Walford Road, opposite the Vine Tree Inn, which was given planning permission last week.
Tudorville Residents' Association opposed the major housing development until traffic-calming measures had been introduced the whole length of Walford Road.
But, in a report, Mr Oates said new measures were to be built along Walford Road, even if planners refused the application.
An additional consultation period will be needed if the new road system includes humps or a change to the existing speed limit.
