NEWS the Rotherwas Relief Road will cost £8.5million, an increase of over 30% in a few weeks, is unbelievable.
We are informed the escalation is caused by inflation, taxes, traffic-calming measures, environmental work, and the need to acquire more land. As inflation is practically static and no new taxes have been introduced (unless a stealth tax on stealth taxes was passed) this is quite unsubstantiated.
If traffic-calming measures are needed, along with environmental work and the acquisition of new land, it demonstrates what most people have been stating for some time (especially the business community), this project has been exceptionally feebly planned, and borders on the farcical.
Presumably, we can expect to read by Easter the project will now cost an additional £2 million, and if the project ever becomes a reality, the ultimate cost will be second only to the harebrained American project to send a man to Mars!
