Presteigne 2 Aberystwyth Res 0

PRESTEIGNE turned in one of their best performances of the season to defeat the league leaders in the Spar Mid Wales League.

Missing a number of first-team regulars through injury and suspension, Presteigne were nevertheless quickly into their stride and Neil Lewis and Dave Hart both went close in the early stages.

The Presteigne pressure was rewarded on 15 minutes when Anthony Robbins found Willie Lindesay on the edge of the area and he drilled home.

Presteigne continued to apply strong pressure and some good football produced further openings for Chris Jones and Tom Ammonds, with Dave Watkins also going close.

After the interval, Presteigne extended their lead when Robbins picked up the ball 35 yards out and let fly with an unstoppable shot.

From there on, the home side continued to dominate and made it an easy afternoon for Rory Hollingshead, replacing the injured Bryan Kirkham in the Presteigne goal.

Lewis went close to extending the Presteigne as the home side emerged with a memorable victory.

Presteigne Reserves made it a doubly successful day for the club with a 2-1 win at Llandrindod Wells in the Spar Mid Wales League South.

On Saturday, Presteigne will be hoping to build on their impressive win over Aberystwyth when they entertain Llanfyllin in the Spar Mid Wales League, kick-off 2pm.
