RUGBY enthusiasts, young and old, will have the chance to again celebrate England's World Cup triumph when the Webb Ellis Trophy is on display at Luctonians RFC next week.

It is part of the RFU's nationwide Sweet Chariot Tour to promote the game as a sport for all and Luctonians will be the first club in the country to stage the complete display with the numerous participating events.

As well as the World Cup, the Calcutta Cup and men's and women's Six Nations trophies will be on show at the club's Mortimer Park headquarters, Kingsland, from 5.30pm to 9pm on Thursday, February 5.

Admission is free and everyone is invited to take part in, or view, the rugby-related activities, which include demonstrations by boys' and girls' teams, a static scrum machine and a goal-kicking net for budding Jonny Wilkinsons. It is also hoped that the RFU will bring their trailer with inter-active games machines.

There will be the chance for fans to be pictured with the Webb Ellis Trophy, while the Sun Valley Project coaches and other rugby coaches from Herefordshire and South Shropshire clubs will be there to encourage prospective players and administrators.

Luctonians director of rugby Simon Green-Price stressed: "This is a county event and all clubs are invited to be represented."

The World Cup will start the day at Telford shopping centre before being switched to Telford RFC, from where it is planned to fly it by helicopter to Luctonians who will then be first to stage the complete road-show.

The trophy will then move into Worcestershire for Friday and Birmingham on Saturday during its three-day stay in the North Midlands.

This is the start of a four-month tour of England.

Clubs wishing to take part in this promotion of rugby at grass-roots level in Herefordshire can contact Simon Green-Price at Luctonians on 01568 709080.
