I REFER to your news item in which you state there is a local depth of feeling against the proposed quarry at the former Moreton military campsite.

As a likely neighbour to the scheme I am in accord with the Highways Agency and English Nature in having no objection to the quarry scheme. As a member of the Wellington Action Group, I can say I am unaware of any local objection to the quarry proposal.

What I am aware of is strong local feelings against the proposed changes Tarmac are proposing to the A49 so they can get access to the site. These will greatly increase the dangers that exist on an already dangerous highway.

Your report did a disservice to users of the A49 by not drawing readers' attention to a potentially dangerous proposal by Tarmac. The council made a site visit on Monday to view the highway problems but not to look at a quarry site.

BILL PIKE,

Wellington, Hereford.
