Ledbury TOWN 1, Bromyard TOWN 1

IT took a penalty and a deflected goal to beat two in-from goalkeepers as Saturday's mid-table clash at Ledbury ended in a draw.

Playing down the slope in the first half, Bromyard enjoyed the majority of possession, with front man Carl Fairhurst causing problems to Ledbury's back four. He created most of Bromyard's chances but stand-in goalkeeper Dimitri Dimitrou was in superb form.

Dimitrou was finally undone through a Danny Hilditch penalty in the 26th minute, after the Ledbury defence had failed to clear the ball and Justin Ballinger was brought down by Steve Olchek.

After the break, Ledbury piled on the pressure as Welch, Brooks and Ravenscroft were allowed more room to work.

Welch had a 20-yard shot saved by Dean Smith and Nick Stockley went close with a good effort from the edge of the box.

With Smith and defenders Alex Kilgour and Paul Webb in top form, it looked as if Ledbury would not get the equaliser until, in the 70th minute, top goal scorer Robbie Colwell hit a powerful shot, which took a deflection past the unfortunate goalkeeper.

Minutes later Smith saved a Olchek volley from point blank range.

In an exciting finish, Fairhurst almost snatched a late winner for the visitors and with time running out and the Bromyard goal under siege, Colwell beat two defenders in the box only to find the referee blowing his whistle for full time as he was about to shoot.

Ledbury management Ford and Barry praised Mark Green in defence and Dimitrou in goal and said they would be looking for another striker to strengthen the squad.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Ledbury play away at Tividale, kick off 2.45pm.
