THE annual meeting of Whitecross Townswomen's Guild was held in March in the presence of Mary Collins and Val Twigg of Tupsley Guild acting as Tellers. Annual reports were received from the secretary and treasurer, after which Mary Halls, the chairman, announced she would be standing down for personal reasons and resigned in favour of the retiring secretary, Mavis Matthews. Following the procedures laid down, members were then asked to vote in six members to the committee. Arts and crafts were knitting blankets for new-born babies at the County Hospital and were to meet at the home of June Timson on March 9, while Social Studies had a trip running to Ross Labels on March 17 and the first Skittles Match between Whitecross and Tupsley would be at the Hereford Bowling Club on the March 13. Members agreed the charity for 2004 to be Dogs for the Hard of Hearing. Mary Halls announced an outing to Harts Barn Craft Centre at Longhope on April 21, and a further outing to Blenheim Palace on August 4. The proposed holiday to Southport was aborted. Rose Hart agreed to host the March coffee morning on Tuesday, March 23. A request from the federation who are in urgent need of a secretary was put forward by Doreen Morgan, also two volunteers were required to attend the National Council Meeting in Bournemouth on June 28. Finally, Mary Halls handed the badge of office to Mavis Matthews and thanked Mary Collins and Val Twigg for their joint efforts in finalising the voting. Then followed a short bingo session to round off the evening. The next meeting will be on April 7 at Holy Trinity Church Hall, Whitecross Road, at 7pm.
