ARCHIE the Polar Bear had warm greetings for a Golden Valley school when he called in this week.

Looking a little out of place in green and pleasant Peterchurch, Archie popped in to praise Fairfield High School students for raising £731.37 to help WWF's work with polar bears in the wild.

Archie visited the school with Deanne Hutchings, supporter development officer for WWF-UK, to present pupils with an engraved shield in recognition of their achievement.

"Their tremendous effort made them one of the biggest school fundraisers for WWF in Herefordshire," Deanne said. "The money will go to WWF's projects to help protect the polar bear and its Arctic environment."

Pupils at Fairfield raised the money through a Walk for Wildlife last October. The school is planning another one this year, the theme for which is tigers.
