A Staplow man hopes to raise £1,500 for the charity National Asthma by tackling the London Marathon on April 18.

Tim Walton, of Priors Court, has already secured around £900 in sponsorship and he hopes that more people in the Ledbury area will dig deep to make his gruelling efforts all the more worthwhile.

Mr Walton will be one of 400 runners setting out for National Asthma. His chose the charity as he is a sufferer himself and there is a history of asthma in his family.

The 39-year-old is in hard training at present, clocking up to 70 miles on the road each week.

He has successfully completed nine half marathons in the past, in areas including Sheffield, Derby, Tewkesbury and Stroud, but he has never before attempted the full marathon of 26.2 miles.

Mr Walton said: "The longest training run I've done so far is 22 miles around Bosbury, Cradley, Storridge and West Malvern and it's cold to be out running at this time of year."

He has set himself no time target for the London Marathon, adding: "I just want to complete the course."
