The ornamental top of Newent's fibreglass flagpole has gone missing having been blown away by recent strong winds. The town council has complained to the manufacturers about having to fund a replacement, so soon after it was installed. The cost would be £82.25, and the manufacturer has offered a 25 per cent discount. But the council has written back saying it should not have to pay anything at all.
